Exterior of Lotus Orlando

We covered the opening of Lotus back in August in the space that used to be occupied by Prickly Pear. Unfortunately the reviews were not positive. Today Scott Joseph is reporting that the owners plan to change the concept.

The new name will be Mingos (Facebook).

The new concept is Floribbean. Scott notes they will serve items such as empanadas with smoked pork ribs, tostone cups filled with braised pulled chicken, and tacos made from naan bread with marlin.

Also comes news that the owners won’t open Honey next door and instead are considering other options.

The restaurant will stay open as they transition from Lotus to Mingos.

Head on over to Scott Joseph’s site for the full menu and his original review of Lotus.

  1. Good riddance. I ordered a chicken pesto sandwich for lunch there two weeks after they opened and it was the worst thing I’ve ever been served in a restaurant, bar none. The chicken was undercooked and the one bite I did take had the distinct flavor of unseasoned bird over an uncleaned grill. To add insult to injury, I was the first customer of the day and it still took 30 minutes to get an undercooked, unseasoned ( literally no pesto on the pesto sandwich ) chicken sandwich; I promise I could have cooked it equally well in three minutes 🙂

  2. Have you seen their menu? 4 kinds of fonts and looked like it was made with Microsoft word 98. Only Comic Sans would have made it worse.

  3. Then this will be a travesty! Dont think by changing the name after two months you are going to change peoples minds! So sad, because its a great location and space, so much potential.

  4. I went there Friday and it was a DISASTER! over an hour for food (ceviche which is raw) and the mains were over cooked and flavorless. The service was not there, even though the place was empty and all staff were around the bar. They spilled our drinks before they got to the table. Finally when the manager came over and apologized, he took the mains off the bill, but still we were charged! He said it was their first restaurant, i am sure it will be their last!
