1 million cups

This morning at East End Market entrepreneurs and community members gathered for coffee and to hear and learn from two startups.

The event, 1 Million Cups, allows startups of any kind to present their business to a diverse audience of mentors, advisors, and entrepreneurs followed by feedback and questioning from the community.

Today’s session was a CPA trying to startup and small business failure rate and John Rife, East End Market’s founder and developer.

Ron Ben-Zev helps organize the Orlando event and says it’s about fostering an environment for startups.

“Our job as pioneers and startup junkies is to create a safe and vibrant ecosystem to help those that have already launched, want to launch or want to support the startup community,” he said.

The startups get real-time feedback and audience members learn more about what it takes to build a startup.

They don’t have to be tech companies, just businesses or ideas with the potential to scale beyond the neighborhood and city.

“We have everything from food to clothing, to manufacturing to service oriented and of course technology,” Ben-Zev said.

1 Million Cups is a national program in 25 different cities.

Orlando started the weekly meetings back in October and have settled on East End Market as their location.

The program is free and open to the public and takes place every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Anyone interested in presenting can apply on their website.
