Txokos Basque Kitchen (Website | Facebook) opens tonight at East End Market at 3201 Corrine Dr [GMap].

The restaurant is being opened by Chef Henry & Michele Salgado, owners of the Spanish River Grill Bistro Latino in New Smyrna Beach.

The restaurant occupies the space in the eastern side of the building (the left hand side when looking at the building from Corrine Dr).

Erin Allport with Txokos Basque Kitchen tells Bungalower that the restaurant is inspired by the Basque region in Northern Spain, where she says there are more Michelin Star rated restaurants per square foot than anywhere else in the world.

As for the name it’s pronounced cho-kos and means an underground gastronomic society of people who come together to eat, drink, socialize and experiment with new ways of cooking.

Allport says “in this spirit, Txokos will offer a menu featuring fresh ingredients from our Florida coastal waters and what is grown in our [East End] Market garden.”

There is a Gin Tonic menu, crafted cocktails, beer, all-Spanish wine list and a weekday Pintxos Happy Hour. Pintxos, Allport explains, is snack typically shared with bar guests in the basque region.

The restaurant offers sit down service, with a seated bar as well as an asador bar on the covered patio and outdoor patio seating.

Txokos Basque Kitchen is open Tuesday through Sunday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

They don’t take reservations but you can call ahead to have your name placed on the wait list and once you get there you can grab some beer or wine from inside the market to enjoy in the garden area.
