OJA Kitchen Garden

The Orlando Junior Academy is partnering with Florida Hospital for Children and the Emeril Lagasse Foundation to break ground on a Kitchen House and Culinary Garden as part of their Edible Education Experience.

The Kitchen House and Culinary Garden will be located at 28 E King St across from the Orlando Junior Academy in College Park [GMap].

The new innovative space will give students the opportunity to learn about the source of their food. Students will also have a hand in growing and preparing that food. The goal is to inspire them to live a healthier and more enjoyable lifestyle.

The facility won’t just be for Orlando Junior Academy students, it will also be open for other schools to enjoy and take field trips and for community events.

The environmentally sustainable 3,000 sf, $700,000 project includes a kitchen classroom space for OJA’s Nutritional Science Lab. They will have four cooking stations where chef-instructors will teach nutrition and scientific concepts through the preparation of local fresh food.

Celebrity chefs Emeril Lagasse, Kevin Fonzo of K Restaurant in College Park and Sarah Cahill, raw food advocate, have lent their time and talent to the Kitchen House. HuntonBrady Architects, Midtown Architecture Studio, TLC Engineering, Allan & Conrad, Poulos & Bennett, Brasfield & Gorrie and Davis & Associates have all also agreed to donate their services.

Here are some architectural renderings, the site plan and floor plans for the project provided Midtown Architecture Studio and Hunton Brady Architects:

  1. avantiart This is not a commercial space. It’s educational and it’s going on a school’s property.
