The GLBT Community Center of Central Florida (Website | Facebook) plans to remodel their facilities in the Mills 50 District.

The Center is located at 946 North Mills Ave and they provide the area’s largest free HIV testing center along with support groups, social programs and counseling services at a reduced cost.

The Center will expand their HIV testing facility from one to four rooms with a dedicated waiting area.

They will also receive a new HVAC system and reconfigured counseling and meeting rooms. Administrative offices will be relocated to another area of the facility. They will install new floors and have a new interior design scheme.

On the exterior they will be getting a new roof, new windows and painting the 4,100 square-foot space.

The Center will also expand services to include new programs focused on the needs of seniors and youth, including a senior hotline and GED program.

The remodel is being made possible by a $147,000 community development block grant from the City of Orlando along with matching funds from donors.

“We’re thankful for the City of Orlando’s support of our initiatives and humbled by the encouragement we’ve already received from our community,” GLBT Community Center of Central Florida board chair Timothy Vargas said in a written statement. “As we look to raise a quarter of the funds needed to restore the center of our community, we’re excited for this new chapter.”
