Stonewall Bar Orlando (Facebook | Website) opened back in 2007 as a restaurant and the owner, Steven Watkins, was hailed as a “pioneer of Parramore” for locating his new business on West Church Street.  Eventually the restaurant became a popular gay bar and is now at the center of the soccer-driven development boom

If you’ve driven by the small gay club in the past few months you may have noticed that it is under construction.

The bar is getting an ambitious makeover that is transforming it from a one-story box (that used to house a church) into a two-story night club with a front-row view of the new stadium and the downtown skyline.

A water feature on the second floor will house an indoor rain storm and water tank – which, according to Watkins, could potentially house a merman for special occasions (the merman still has to sign a contract, so don’t count your fish before they hatch).

The bar will also feature some hi-tech special effects that will transform the dance floor into an immersive experience – the bar will go through the seasons; winter, fall, spring and summer – complete with fire and fog and laser light shows.

Stonewall Bar Orlando is still open through the construction, and features affordable drink specials and theme nights.
