The Orlando Utilities Commission will be building a 13 megawatt solar array in eastern Orange County, at a landfill. According to OUC General Manager and CEO Ken Ksionek, it would be the only solar array in the country to be installed over a landfill.
The new array will have more than 41,000 solar panels and cover more than 31 acres of landfill, and will provide enough electricity to power about 1,500 homes.
Although this is good for Orlando OUC needs to do more. We need to break away from the Coal Power station that is operating and develop a clear plan to only use renewable energy in this state.
Renewable energy accounted for 2.3% of Florida’s total net electricity generation in 2014, and the state ranked 10th in the nation in net generation from utility-scale solar energy. http://www.eia.gov/state/?sid=FL
This statistic is utterly pathetic and we need to elect people who will provide us with clean energy.
