SPONSORED: You could own a piece of Orlando history. This two bedroom, one bath house is an incredible blend of Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern. Built in the 1940s by architect Hayward Shacklett for a prominent banking family, this house was also home to the brilliant and pioneering Brownie Wise, former VP of Tupperware Home Parties.

The story of Brownie Wise (the first woman to be featured on the cover of Business Week) is a fascinating tale of one woman’s perseverance in the business world, normally closed to women, which will soon be a major motion picture starring Sandra Bullock.

The house is just as amazing as its former occupants. Beautiful hardwood walnut floors, original 11-foot tray ceilings, a gorgeous hand-painted mural created by the architect, glassed-in Florida room, numerous custom built-in shelving, closets, window seats and all of its original details intact. The bathroom has an incredibly unique tiled shower tub and the Master Bedroom features a stunning arched window.

The Art Deco kitchen features tons of counter space, a one-car garage boasts a wall of shelving and new high-efficiency washer and dryer, and a breakfast nook off the kitchen is the perfect place to enjoy your coffee with a great view out the curved wall of windows. If all that wasn’t enough, the home also has a large pool with a brick paved, screened enclosure, and opens out on to the historic Dubsdread golf course, in the heart of College Park.

The asking price is $295,000.

  1. I lived in it just over a year ago. Really nice house, although the 1/2 bath is a toilet in the garage (not kidding). But it’s a real gem.

  2. No way! I had no idea that was Brownie Wise’s house. I drive by it all the time. And I should’ve known too, after working for four years at UCF’s Special Collections, home to Bob Kealing’s collection. Thanks Bungalower!

  3. A gem for sure, but owned Spanish house next door 15 years ago; you’d better like mowers on the course at zero dark thirty and golf balls in the yard!

  4. You’re one of our FAVORITE resources for what’s going on in Orlando neighborhoods. Keep up the great work!

  5. I know a guy who owned that house in the early 80’s. When he bought it, it was owned a woman named Mitzi I think. The house still had the original cork flooring and a topical motif mural on one of the walls.

  6. The renovation inside is beautiful. I suspect the mural in the living room may have been commissioned by Wise, if that’s the original one.

  7. I hope whomever buys this home will preserve it’s Art Deco character and not tear it down or turn it in to some McMansionized nightmare. Brownie Wise lived here when she started Tupperware Home Parties in 1951. There are several photos of she and Earl Tupper here in the early, best days of their historic partnership.
