EDITOR’S NOTE: Bungalower is proud to be a media sponsor of PARK(ing) Day Orlando

SPONSORED: The Orlando Section of the American Society of Landscape Architects (Website) and the College Park Partnership (Website) are seeking local activists, artists, designers, architects, and urban planners, to submit design proposals to temporarily transform an on-street parking space in College Park into a public space for PARK(ing) Day Orlando.

The aim of PARK(ing) Day Orlando is to create a conversation about our growing neighborhoods and districts and ask the question, “How are these places building community?”  This Year College Park is hosting a seven block parklet crawl, with several transformed parking spaces along Edgewater Drive.

This event is based on an annual open-source global event, which occurs every third Friday of September, where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform parking spaces into “parklets” (temporary public places).  Although the designs are temporary, PARK(ing) Day has inspired direct participation in the civic processes that permanently alter the urban landscape.  PARK(ing) Day not only highlights the versatility of public spaces, but also showcases a broad range of artists and encourages people to see the city differently.

What would you do if you owned a parking stall for a day?  Come engage your City, transform a parking space into a temporary installation, an urban intervention or a performance venue!

The proposal submission deadline is Friday, September 2 and approved projects will be announced the following week on Friday, September 9.  There is a fee of $50 associated with each reserved parking spot; all money will be donated to a local charity/non-profit organization. Teams may reserve more than one spot!  Each group will be responsible for funding their project, setting up and tearing down on the day of the event! Park(ing) Day festivities will take place on Friday, September 16, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
