“One of my neighbors told me that the City of Orlando plans to close Vassar Street at College Park Lane behind the Wellsely to minimize traffic and because the College Park plans shows that the block between Smith Street and Vassar Street is slated to become a commercial development. Is there any truth to the rumor and does anyone know when they plan on developing the block between Smith St and Vassar st?” – Dan Forrester

According to the City’s Public Information Officer Press Secretary, Cassandra Lafser, there is currently no plan to close Vassar.

The City did just finish conducting a transportation study on Vassar and Edgewater Drive this past spring, we wrote about that HERE. The study was in response to public concerns over a possible increase in traffic in the Edgewater Drive and Vassar Street area.

A follow up Community Meeting is being planned in order to update the community on the results of the study and to discuss recommendations that could be considered to increase safety for pedestrians in the area and improve traffic flow. Dates for the meeting have yet to be released.

According to Lafser, no decisions have been made yet, concerning the future of Vassar Street. The upcoming public meeting is meant to get input from the community based on the results to discuss if changes should be made.
