Re-Runz Records (Facebook Website), which opened in Parramore in August, is one of Central Florida’s newest shops dedicated to vinyl. The shop on Church Street in the shadow of the new Orlando City Soccer Club stadium specializes in soul, funk, blues, R&B and gospel LPs and 45s.

Owner Ed Smith, a near lifelong record collector, told me that the resurgence of vinyl convinced him to open the shop.

Re-Runz Records, which is next to J. Henry’s Barbershop near Parramore Avenue, has roughly 7,000 new and used records in stock. I took a look through his collection and found records from Stevie Wonder, Sun, The Gap Band, The Supremes, T-Connection, Bobby Womack and The Trammps.

Smith said he’s hoping to add another 1,000 records soon. He has 15,000 records in storage, he said.

Re-Runz also has a small collection of hip-hop, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz records. The shop also carries CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs and stereo equipment.

A retired parole and probation officer, Smith owned and operated Re-Run (no “z”) Records in Pine Hills for many years. He also played in several soul bands, including his current one called The After Hour Band, and opened for James Brown, Kool & The Gang and The Delfonics.

He closed the Pine Hills store in the early 2000s because he couldn’t compete with the big-box stores, he said.  Smith continued selling records online.

Then last year, because of that resurgence in vinyl, Smith decided to open the  650 SF shop, which had been a vacant storefront.

Longtime Orlando residents may remember another record shop in the same location called Soul Train Music . That shop closed in 2010.

Re-Runz Records is located at 642 W. Church Street [GMap] is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. TuesdaySaturday.
