Coytown’s Lake Druid Park has seen a number of improvements in the past year; including a dog park and mountain bike track. More on those stories, HERE and HERE.
Other improvements to the 22-acre park include removal of 50,000 SF of asphalt, removal of old warehouse buildings and sodding of disturbed areas, a link to the Cady Way Trail, new fencing, the planting of thirty-five new trees throughout the park, a sand volleyball court, new benches, and much more.
According to a report filed for review by the Municipal Planning Board at their upcoming April meeting, improvements planned for the (far) future include:
- Expansion of the single-track mountain bike trail to the far north side of the park. This is awaiting approval from the Navy, who control access to that area of the park.
- A 9,000 SF community garden with its own water source.
- A playground and “tot lot” with built-in shade structures. The funding for this is expected to be folded into the 2020/21 fiscal year.
- Extension of the 10 foot-wide path into a quarter-mile loop throughout all parts of the park. Funding has not been allotted yet.
- Installation of perimeter light fixtures. Not funded.
- Additional dog park enhancements like small shade structures and agility equipment. Not funded.
The plans are also calling for possible additions of permanent restrooms and access to the lake.
These plans will be voted on at the April 18, 2017 Municipal Planning board meeting.
I love this park, especially the dog runs. But I hate that they don’t open until 9–it would be nice to be able to play with your dogs before it gets too hot. I called the Parks Dept but it doesn’t seem like this will change.
