The State of Florida has recently passed a series of laws that will require Cities and Counties to update their regulating processes concerning height restrictions around airports.

The City of Orlando is considering making a number of new amendments to their existing land development codes to become compliant with the latest State laws. That includes granting decision making power on future development to the Municipal Planning Board and rendering the existing Airport Zoning Board and Airport Zoning Board of Alignment obsolete.

This means that the current process in permitting tall structure projects will change considerably, but Bungalower is unsure in which direction this will go; more strict restrictions or greater allowances for development around the periphery of the airports.

The State Statute requires that the City and County adopt these amendments by July 1, 2017. A more detailed staff report on the amendments will be issued in the near future.
