A petition has been launched to ban the installation of blue LED lights in residential neighborhoods in Orlando.

The petition claims that blue LED lights are “too bright and are too blue” for those areas and goes on to say,

“The AMA has recommendations of streetlight color being max 3000k. Darksky.org a web community filled with scientists trying to reduce and eliminate night time light pollution, has similar recommendations, including shields to reduce the area of effect.”

The petition is asking the City of Orlando and OUC to replace the LED lights with lights that have softer color tones in the 2700k range.

Editor’s Note: The benefits of LED lighting are notable from an energy-efficiency purview.
