The Orlando Police Department has installed an E-Commerce Exchange Zone outside their new headquarters at 1250 W. South Street [GMap].
The Exchange Zone is meant to give online shoppers a safe place to exchange money for goods that they purchase on sites like Craigslist, as it often involves meeting a stranger face-to-face.
Rather than wrack your brain for a neutral place between yourself and a your new unnamed acquaintance, the OPD is encouraging residents to take advantage of this new drop-off space. The Zone is monitored by video 24-hours a day and as the Orlando Police stated in an earlier press release, “If the person you are exchanging goods with doesn’t want to meet you at the police department, you should be wary of doing business with them.”
Who”s down wit opd I’m down with old….
Its safe way to avoid Porch Pirates this time of year for seasonal gift buying.
Not sure how it would help with porch thieves?
This isn’t a package drop-off/delivery zone, this is just a safe spot for a person-to-person meetup. I’ve never done a Craig’s list sale where the seller offered to leave it on my porch.
At least with Amazon, you can use the locker or pickup center to avoid porch pirates.
seems like more of a risk going over there then just meeting at a starbucks
