Winner of 15 Audience and Jury Awards, BIG SONIA is a poignant and often humorous documentary look at a remarkable woman: 91-year-old Sonia Warshawski—great grandmother, businesswoman, and Holocaust survivor, she runs a tailor shop for more than 30 years that’s now the last store in a defunct shopping mall in the heart of Kansas City. But when she’s served an eviction notice, the specter of retirement prompts Sonia to revisit her harrowing past as a refugee and witness to genocide. An amazing story of generational trauma and healing and what it means to be a survivor, BIG SONIA also offers a laugh-out-loud funny portrait of the power of love to triumph over bigotry, and the power of truth-telling to heal us all.

USA, 2016, 93 min, Directed by Leah Warshawski and Todd Soliday, Not Rated, In English
