These days the phones we carry in our pockets contain a camera, a movie theater, a map, and much more. But do you know what’s inside that magic rectangle? Things Come Apart, a fascinating exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution that opens at the History Center in February, delves into the smartphone and dozens of other items we use daily. Featuring the works of creative photographer and tinkerer Todd McLellan, the exhibit reveals the deep complexity of everyday products as it highlights both revolutionary technologies and the power of classic designs such as the evergreen bicycle. An added component will include items made right here in Central Florida. Things Come Apart strikingly reveals the design and engineering behind some of our most common, useful, and prized possessions.
