We told you HERE that Orlando Museum of Art was planning to open a second location in downtown Orlando and now it seems that they’re looking to add a rooftop sculpture garden into the mix.

As first reported by Laura Kinsler of Growthspotter, museum director Aaron De Groft has convinced the Summa Development Group to let them activate a roof deck on their new 33-story downtown tower that was otherwise going to go unused on the ninth floor.

Plans for the sculpture and event garden will include a glass conservatory, rainwater and solar energy capturing installations, and a number of works by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly – making it the only rooftop Chihuly garden in the world.

Award-winning architecture firm Pelli Clarke Pelli is designing the new 30,000 SF museum space which will occupy the second floor of the building. A gift shop will be located on the ground floor and the two will be connected by an elevator.

The new tower, located at 350 E. Pine Street [GMap] just between Pine and Lake Streets, will also be occupied by a dog park, condominiums, a five-star hotel, and an additional 527,200 SF of commercial and convention space.

The attached renderings are just conceptual and likely to change before the project breaks ground next summer. The new museum is expected to open for the 2024-25 season for the institution’s 100th anniversary.
