As we get closer to the November 18 event that will officially unveil the eight See Art Orlando sculptures, we are getting to see more and more of the installations.
The fourth installation is located at the Signature Plaza on the corner of Orange Ave and Church St [GMap].
This installation is called Astrogenesis II. The sculpture is by Maryland based artist Wendy Ross.
Atrogenesis II is similar to her previous Astrogenesis, which is located at the University of Tennessee.
The main difference is the blue glass panels. Additionally, we imagine the white cords for the lights will be hidden before the final unveiling.
Three other sculptures have already been completed:
- Global Convergence at Heritage Park by the Orange County Regional History Center
- Cedar of Lebanon on the corner of Central and Osceola next to Post Parkside
- Take Flight on Lake Eola by Robinson
The sculptures are being paid for by private donors. You can see a map of the eight locations here.
Here are some more photos of the sculpture:
If nothing else, it is “large”. 😉
Yeah. I got some cool shots of them working on it. Looks like it will be pretty neat.
Sadly the sculpture at the University of Tennessee was not installed.
I’m actually very interested in seeing this one lit up at night.
Hi Michael, Thanks for pointing this out do you know why?
The University picked a designed of much less quality. The student population was so upset that security cameras have been installed to keep “A Whirlwind of Opportunity” from being vandalized: http://www.aaycock.com/knoxville.html
I just graduated with my Master Degree from U.T. and just moved back to Orlando.
Thanks for the info!
i saw them installing another huge circular one, by crane, last night on central (south side of lake eola).
