We’ve been telling you about the efforts to reinstall the “Happy Holidays” sign on top of the Historic Ivanhoe Building.

Tonight the sign will be relit thanks to the efforts of the Ivanhoe Village Main Street and the City.

City Commissioner Stuart along with the other commissioners agreed to fund the $50,000 to rehab the sign. However, part of the deal is that the Ivanhoe Village Main Street raises money to support the operation and maintenance of the sign.

The 12-foot tall sign was a tradition on top of the OUC owned building. While we haven’t been able to track down the origins of the sign it appears that the sign lasted until the 90′s. The sign was large enough to be seen by cars on I-4.

It originally read “Merry Christmas, Happy New Year” but was changed to “Happy Holidays, Happy New Year” in the early 90s.

They stopped lighting the sign in the ’90s and this will be the first year since then that the sign has been lit up.

The event tonight will also help kickoff Ivanhoe Village’s Jingle Eve which will take place tomorrow.
