We told you back in August how about the Nils M. Schweizer Fellows launched NextRound (Website), a campaign to raise money to save the honeycomb part of “round building” downtown.

Bungalower has learned that the organization raised enough money to save the Brise Soleil. Now they are working to raise funding to turn the iconic features into public art.

The building is being torn down to make way for the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center. The panels will be removed before the demolition and as many as possible saved.

The group had students submit ideas on how to turn the panels into public art. The winning design is shown below.

A site for this has not been determined but the group says they are working with the City to find the best location.

You can support the project by donating on their website here.

  1. This is a really exciting opportunity to create an interesting sculpture and one that has a bit of local history.  Happy to see that the Mayor’s office has listened to the demands of the populace on this one.

  2. I know a lot of people hate that building but I love it. I’m so glad the honeycomb panels are going to be saved.
