Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news.

  1. Mayor Dyer gave his annual state of the City Speech
  2. We learned that a budget shortfall could spur tax hikes, cutbacks for Orlando residents
  3. The City plans to install smart parking meters downtown
  4. Orlando Tech will become the first digital main street
  5. SunRail continues to garner headlines with less than three weeks from the kickoff of the SunRail service. We uncovered that there won’t be a regional pass for SunRail and Lynx.
  6. SunRail and Lynx  can’t agree on how much money FDOT should pay Lynx for the feeder routes.
  7. The Sentinel wrote about the fact that you can’t park for free downtown to take SunRail. Instead, those downtown startions are (and have always been) destination stations. That’s OK because two of those four destination stations are serviced by the free LYMMO bus, the other two are hospitals which are major destinations for commuters and all four are serviced by Lynx routes.
  8. To help people figure out their best route options, Lynx is now offering new location-based maps. One of which is a new LYMMO map that shows the two free downtown bus routes including the one that officially starts this week.
  9. Juan Lynum and Regina Hill are headed to a runoff for the District 5 City Council seat but not without an FDLE investigation.
  10. In restaurant news…new owners are expanding Brian’s Restaurant in Ivanhoe Village and Nora’s is leaving. Scott Joseph reviews Banh Mi Nha Trang, a great Vietnamese sandwich shop and checks out the newly opened Artisan’s Table where he finds the food makes up for some of their early operational challenges.
