Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news. 

  1. After Mayor Dyer mentioned in his State of the City Speech that City revenues just aren’t keeping up with expenses and he said they have cut all that he can, Commissioners Sheehan and Lynum said they are ready to raise taxes.
  2. With SunRail starting next week, FDOT is taking a look at how to make access to the SunRail stations more pedestrian and bike friendly.
  3. A third bowl game will head to the Citrus Bowl in 2015 and the American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will be held at the Amway Center in 2016 and 2017.

  8. As an end of May deadline approaches teachers in Orange County will vote an a proposed pay raise based on teacher performances which would mean a 5.5% average salary increase for teachers. The union who recently re-elected it’s president wanted a flat increase regardless of how the teacher was performing.
  9. After the deadly daycare crash, Orange County is conducting a study to determine if crash barriers should be required for daycares and other similar facilities.
  10. Bungalowers looking for a nice place to grab a drink and have a conversation might have a new favorite place  as Lil Indies looks to change into Daughters and Co. cocktail bar.
