Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news.

  1. The Orange County Commissioners will decide if changes to the board will be sent to voters. Changes include expanding the board, making the races non-partisan and making it more difficult to add referendums to the ballot.
  2. The Florida legislature passed a sports bill that would allow state support of the Orlando soccer stadium being built.
  3. Tomorrow Juan Lynum and Regina Hill will face off in the  Commission District 5 Runoff ElectionOne voter sued to keep Lynum off ballot and Lynum says questions about where he lives are a distraction
  4. Last week SunRail started it’s free service. Passenger demand exceeded expectation, leaving passengers waiting on the platformDay two saw fewer issues but just as many riders.FDOT says there were 10,819 passengers on Thursday and 10,496 on Friday. Tasty Chomps put together a good guide the food options near the SunRail Stations.
  5. The non-SunRail related transit news from last week was that Megabus is adding service from Downtown Orlando to Miami, Tallahassee and Tampa.
  6. It looks like the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority will be merging with other Central Florida expressway agencies. The new Central Florida Expressway Authority is part of a bill passed they the state legislature and is on its way to Governor Scott.
  7. The City of Orlando Firefighters’ Union has filed a lawsuit against the City because the City did not turn over information on text messages sent by the fire chief during an arbitration hearing.
  8. We now know the name and concept of the restaurant that will be going in to the former HUE space in Thornton Park.
  9. The Virgin Olive in the North Quarter is now closed.
  10. Pulse of Central Florida stopped by Mingo’s in Thornton Park District for dinner and he liked it.
