Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news.

  1. Val Demings drops out of Orange County mayor race most likely leaving Mayor Jacobs unopposed in her re-election as Orange County Mayor.
  2. SunRail runs on time with fewer passengers on 1st day of paid service. We also found that SunRail fare system has bugs, but we came up with some workarounds. And Scott Maxwell points out what we often remind folks in our comment section, that SunRail costs plenty — but roads cost even more.
  3. A developer proposes rowhomes on South Orange Ave in Downtown South while in that area Downtown South property owners approve new tax for district improvements.
  4. Florida Hospital opened their new executive offices building in Health Village and just next door they demolished the Foundation Building to make way for new office building
  5. Only one property owner is standing in the way of a new soccer stadium in downtown and now Orlando filed suit to take church land for the stadium.
  6. The developers of the proposed The Princeton multi-family project in College Park held a community meeting with College Park residents.
  7. Orlando area, again, ranked the most dangerous place to be a pedestrian
  8. As the City looks to demolish Tinker Field to make way for the new Citrus BowlTinker Field was placed on Florida Trust’s endangered places list.  It also earned support from the Municipal Planning Board, but landmark status delayed. And there’s one less piece of history at the field as a memorial to hall of famer was stolen from Tinker Field
  9. In restaurant and bar news, 1010 Brewery to open on Virginia Drive instead of OBP Brewery and Gastropub Osprey Tavern to open in Baldwin Park.
  10. Scott Joseph stopped in on Latin Square Cuisine in Downtown Orlando…we never knew it was there but will now be checking it out.
