The Orange County Regional History Center is looking for residents to submit historic icons for a new exhibit.

The Center is looking to unveil 100 Historical Icons of Orlando in early 2015. The exhibit focuses on the formative years for Orlando of 1960-1985.

“My experience is that the memories of the 50’s are expressed with great passion. I believe there is an equal emotional attachment of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. We want people to tell us their stories, and what was exciting in their early years in their neighborhood,” said Orlando Remembered Chairman Mark Line said.

Submissions for icons can be a person, place, event or object “regarded as a representative historic symbol of life in the Orlando Metropolitan Area from 1960-1985.”

Submissions are due August 31 and can be made on the Historic Icons website.

  1. Edith and Bill Royal are perfect icons for Orlando.  They were the ones who brought the arts to Orlando with Royal Ballet School.  Many of us who grew up in Orlando took dance classes from them.  They were awesome people.

  2. Rasha Mubarak Lubna Rahal. How long ago did Khalid Diab come to central florida ? He did computer software, AACC, and charities.
