Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news.

  1. Regina Hill was sworn in as Orlando City commissioner and the Sentinel’s Mark Schlueb takes a look at Commisioner Lynum’s 16 years as a City Commisioner, leaving a legacy of accomplishment, controversy
  2. UberX began offerings rides in Orlando. The app based car company lets you summon a car via a mobile app and you can ride free until June 20.
  3. We couldn’t be happier to share that the City added a pet memorial at Greenwood Urban Wetlands Park.
  4. The Citrus Bowl Reconstruction hit a milestone last week. City and County leaders celebrated the halfway point of the bowl construction
  5. Lynx began testing a mobile app that allows you to track your bus in realtime. For now the application only works for the free downtown LYMMO bus lines.
  6. Residents in the Lake Como and Delaney Park area reached out to us for an update on two construction projects that are behind schedule. We take a look at both these projects.
  7. UCF announced they are opening a start-up space for game developers in Creative Village. This is the third tech space in the works right now in Downtown.
  8. A local developer wrote up an interesting post looking at why Audubon Park Garden District is thriving right next door to Baldwin Park, which has been struggling to get a lot of commercial activity.
  9. In the retail world, Beauty on the Spot opened Mills 50 location and is moving their College Park location and a new attraction called The Great Escape Room plans to open in Downtown Orlando
  10. And one opening and one closing when it comes to restaurants. Meltz Sandwich Restaurant in Chase Plaza closed and Japanese Shop Kappo will be the newest vendor at East End Market
