The Orlando Medical Plaza Hotel at Orlando Health we told you about last August has some changes in store [GMap].
The developers requested to add 27 hotel rooms and remove the pedestrian bridge that was planned to connect the hotel to Orlando Health.
The new plan calls for 112 rooms in the nine-story hotel that sits between two existing office buildings.
The project is still going to be phased.
The first phase is to build a nine-story hotel in-between the two existing medial office buildings (1315 and 1405 S Orange Ave.). The would include a lobby on the third floor.
Phase two includes work on the northern building (1315 S Orange Ave.).
The changes are headed to City Council today for approval.

Glad to see the pedestrian bridge go. The idea of street being purged of people is so 1960s.
Good. Pedestrian bridges are stupid. They’re just an excuse to let the street stay unsafe. And most people don’t use them (unless they’re exercising) so they have little practical safety benefit.
SHORT sighted safety planning, excellent marketing on the part of the hospital’s ER … I do expect someone will suffer trying to cross, I have done so between EGG WORKS/ EGG & I and Radio Shack and can’t decide if it’s safer to walk or drive!
It could end up being a good thing…by creating a pedestrian bridge they are basically deciding that it’s not OK to cross the street and there won’t be attempts made to make it safe. Now that there isn’t a ped bridge I would expect there to be some roadway improvements to make it safer to cross.
Wish the pedestrian bridge stayed in the plan.
When people try cross Orange Avenue they will end up at the hospital one way or another.
