Lake Ivanhoe Beach

Residents have started a petition to bring a swimming area and beach back to Lake Ivanhoe.

Swimming isn’t prohibited on the lake and it’s a popular lake for paddle boarding and other water activities but there isn’t a beach area like there once was at Gaston Edwards Park.

“There used to be access to the waters edge with boats and sunbathers, but the shoreline experienced heavy erosion from the lack of vegetation along the shore and in the littoral zone of the lake,” Cassandra Lafser a spokesperson for the City of Orlando told Bungalower.

While it’s been mentioned as an idea for Project DTO to add a beach in the downtown area and more lakes that people can swim in, she says there aren’t any plans to make any lake in Orlando a swim lake.

One of the issues is that “the quality of lake water is at least partially dependent upon certain vegetation in that same zone,” she said.

If you want to voice your support to add a swimming area and beach back to Lake Ivanhoe, you can sign the petition here.

They currently have 100 signatures.
