Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news.
- Orlando Sentinel property to be developed into apartments, office, retail and hotel. The plans call for two phases of development. The first phase on the south side of the property that the Sentinel no longer uses. The current lease on the building allows the Sentinel to stay for ten years with two five-year renewal options.
- Residents create Google map to track coyote sightings. The coyote sightings continue in the bungalow neighborhoods. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission won’t do anything, so residents have started their own tracking.
- Orlando Bike Share launches website with pricing and rack locations. The new site includes details on the membership options and a map of the locations they are looking to put the bike racks at.
- Mayor Dyer shows off Citrus Bowl Plaza, touts BLUEPRINT success. Mayor Dyer walked the media through the latest on the Citrus Bowl construction. You can see a photo tour of the progress here.
- Broken Strings Brewery to open in Ivanhoe Village. The new brewery will be the second to locate along this area of Virgina Drive. The music themed brewery hopes to open later this year.
- Two new shops plan to open in the Church Street Exchange building. Downtown CREDO will open a coffee shop in the lobby of the building and Extract Juice Bar and Lounge will open in a retail space facing Pine St.
- Cafe Red on Church Street closes for remodeling. We’re not sure what they mean by remodeling but we do know they had been cutting back hours. There’s a chance they will turn it into another Graffiti Junktion.
- Our friends at Eat Local Orlando stopped in a Mingo’s Restaurant for Magical Dinning Month.
- Hundreds turn out for VetFest USA in Orlando. If you saw a giant dinosaur robot eating cars off I4 in Downtown Orlando this weekend, it was for the VetFest USA event.
- Bar-BQ Sauced: An oral history of Bar-BQ-Bar. The Bar-BQ-Bar is now closed and the Weekly put together a great history of the bar on Orange Ave. The new concept, Old ’64, should be open soon.
