Here’s our rundown of the top ten things you need to know this week in Downtown Orlando area news.

  1. Project DTO looks at concepts for a new Lake Eola amphitheater. The two concepts show a new amphitheater with grass seating. To make room an expand the park, a small portion of the lake is shown being filled in. They also include a beach without swimming.
  2. Orange commissioners back legal battle in favor of gay marriage. The commissioners voted 5-2 to join the friend of the court brief in support of same-sex marriage. Orlando has already signed onto the brief.
  3. RusTeak Restaurant and Wine Bar opens in College Park. The new polished causal gastropub is in the former O-Town Pizza and Wings space. Be sure to checkout our Photo Tour.
  4. The GLBT Community Center in Mills 50 plans upgrades. The upgrades are being made possible by a grand from the City of Orlando and matching funds from donors.
  5. Mamak Asian Street Food opens in Mills 50. The new southeast Asian restaurant serves traditional Asian street food from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia.
  6. Orlando City celebrates breaking ground on Lions’ new stadium. The new stadium broke ground and should be ready for the 2016 season.
  7. Winn-Dixie on Colonial Drive to close. The grocery store will close sometime before November. No word yet on what will replace the Winn-Dixie.
  8. Theatre Downtown to leave Ivanhoe Village location. Florida Hospital has notified the theater that they will need to leave that location. The theater has provided no information on where they are headed.
  9. OLV at Sodo in Downtown South Closes. While Sodo is quickly filling up with another new restaurant and new retail, OLV closed without much warning.
  10. The Orlando Weekly stops by Pho K5. They say the priority is the victuals, not the visuals.
