CSX is sponsoring a large public arts project with the City of Orlando’s this spring.
The project’s theme is “Transportation: The Journey and The Destination.” There is a call for 10 artists to each create two-dimensional works of art, between 3-10ft in width or height.
The final pieces will join the Public Art Collection and the installations will occur throughout the City.
The project is also considering installing one or two pieces at SunRail Stations. Four SunRail stations are within the City of Orlando – Florida Hospital Health Village, Lynx Central, Church Street, and Orlando Health/Amtrak.
The pieces are expected to be completed, and actually finished on-site at an unveiling event hosted by CSX on March 19 and 20.
Selected artists will receive $1,000 for materials and a $1,000 honorarium.
According to the Request For Qualifications on the City’s website, the deadline for submission is midnight, January 19, 2015. There is an informational conference call scheduled Monday, January 12.
We are especially excited to see how wide-ranging the interpretations of “Transportation: The Journey and The Destination” can be.
Examples include:
- Space travel
- Time travel
- Transportation of information through technology and innovation
- Transportation modes

bdurden0718 We definitely agree! We hope they choose locations where the pieces can be seen by train riders (and other passersby).
Fantastic news – hopefully these pieces are placed in other parts of town. We don’t need Lake Eola Park overloaded with new art when there are plenty of other worthy locations to consider.
