There are a number of openings for new advisory board members right now at the City of Orlando for those residents who are looking for a way to get involved in making their city a better place to live, work and play. (Editors Note: It looks good on a resume too!)

Boards looking for new members include (Descriptions taken from the City of Orlando website):

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (four positions) – Reviews the established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations etc. and recommends to Mayor and City Council specific initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing.  11 members.  Two-year terms.  City residency required or must be employed in the jurisdiction.
MEETINGS:  Second Tuesday, Quarterly, 11:30 a.m.  (next meeting in March)

Criminal Nuisance Abatement Board (two positions) – Hears complaints on allegations that any place or premises constitutes a public nuisance per state law.  Five members.  Two-year terms.  Financial disclosure is required.
MEETINGS: Second Tuesday, 4:00 p.m., as called. (next meeting in February)

Downtown South Neighborhood Improvement District (two positions) – The Council’s primary responsibility is to assist the board of directors in governing the affairs of the district. Five members.  Two-year terms.  Each member must own property in the district, represent a corporate owner of property within the district, or reside in the district. Members must be nominated and appointed to the advisory council pursuant to Article XV, Chapter 2, Orlando City Code. At least one member of the advisory council must be a representative of Orlando Health, one member a owner of land within the district that is designated for industrial use on the City’s future land use map, one member must be a member and representative of the City’s Downtown South Main Street district or owner of land abutting Orange Avenue and that is designated as mixed use corridor or activity center on the City’s future land use map.
MEETINGS: Second Wednesday, 9:00 a.m (next meeting in February)

Harry P. Leu Gardens Board of Trustees (one position):  Controls, operates, manages and maintains Harry P. Leu Gardens. Seven members.
Two-year terms.
MEETINGS:  Fourth Wednesday, 7:45 a.m.  (next meeting in February)

Mennello Museum of American Art Board of Trustees (one position):  Advises the City on development, management and operation issues for the Mennello Museum. Nine members.  Two-year terms. MEETINGS:  Second Tuesday, 4:00 p.m., Bi-Monthly. (next meeting in March)

Public Art Advisory Board (four positions):  Establishes a Public Art Master Plan; recommends specific projects, selection of art works, landscaping and architectural enhancements.  Nine members.  2-year terms.
MEETINGS: Second Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. @ Harry P. Leu Gardens, 1920 N. Forest Drive (next meeting in March)
