Mayor Buddy Dyer unveiled the City’s new fleet of commercial garbage trucks that are powered by compressed natural gas.

According to the City, the new trucks operate 90 percent more quietly, they reduce CO2 emissions by 12.5 thousand tons per year, and they reduce the use of more expensive diesel fuels.

The City purchased the five new trucks as part of their effort to eliminate the consumption of gasoline, diesel fuel and bio-diesel.

The City’s entire green fleet includes a total of 36 electric, hybrid, hydraulic hybrid and compressed natural gas vehicles.

  1. What a great step forward to a greener community! I wonder when they’ll have this more widespread. I know that it’s expensive to get it up and running, but it’ll save people a lot of money. Maybe my brother might do something similar for his towing service. I think it would get him a lot of customers if he made the change.

  2. They are wonderful.  No longer shake me out of bed in the morning!  Quieter than a school bus.
