A Bungalower reader who wished to remain nameless, wrote us two weeks ago asking about the relationship between Gargi’s Restaurant [Facebook | Website] and the City of Orlando. So we thought we’d look into it.

“Hey Bungalower. I’ve heard that Gargi’s Restaurant in Ivanhoe Village has a deal with City Hall where they only have to pay $1 rent a month. Is that true? If so, that’s crazy.”

Gargi’s Lakeside Italian Restaurant [Gmap] has been open since 1987, and is located on the shores of Lake Ivanhoe in Gaston Edward’s Park.

According to Heather Fagan, the Deputy Chief of Staff for the City of Orlando, Gargi‘s leases the land from the City and the owners pay rent to the City in the amount of $5,164 per month or four percent of gross sales (whichever is higher that month).

The owners were responsible for building out the entire restaurant, the City public bathrooms at the rear of the building (that service the park) at their own expense and pay all taxes, maintenance, insurance, etc.

So there you are nameless reader!

If you have a question you’d like us to look into, please feel free to reach out to us and we’ll see what we can turn up!

  1. The Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce down the street does get its rent for pretty much free ($1)

  2. I was told by an employee of the then Marriott across from the old Amway that the lease for that property was $10 per year. Is this true? Since the Amway is no longer and the hotel has been sold and is not in operation, is that lease still in effect? You’d think that they could afford more than every resident in the city pays?

  3. I like that you guys look into inquiries from your readers no matter how small. You rock.

  4. The questioner was close, but they had the wrong building. The Chamber of Commerce around the corner from this restaurant actually does only pay $1 per year. And they didn’t provide any public restrooms.

  5. Stephen the Bungalower Bundles were sent out and you should be getting yours this week. Also, sorry about the Rollins ad, we’re trying to get that fixed asap.

  6. What’s the deal with that building that has had “Kobe’s Steakhouse coming soon” on the sign off colonial

  7. Were April memberships sent out? I didn’t get mine. I would contact via the website, but the Rollins backdrop has pretty much broken it on mobile.
