Orlando Soup (Facebook | Website) is a micro-grant dinner where attendees pay a fee for a simple dinner of soup and salad and then listen to four speakers who are pitching a community action project.

The diners vote for their favorite idea and the winner is awarded the majority of funds from the door, which usually adds up to about $500-$800. Some months they even have a matching donor who doubles the amount of money available.

(Editor’s Note: You can contact them HERE if you’re interested in becoming a sponsor)

Past projects that have received funding include reverse graffiti installations (pressure washing art into dirty walls), sending 500 fifth graders to college for a day,

The next Orlando Soup is on May 14 at the East End Market [Gmap].

Applications for the May micro-grant dinner are due this Sunday and you can fill out an online application HERE.

Here is a great video that the Orlando Sentinel shot back in August with Yelp Orlando’s adorable Community Manager, Andi Perez.
