We have a confession to make.
We were so excited about today being Earth Day, we forgot that we had signed up to participate in the City’s One Less Car event (Facebook).
But thanks to the help of our friends at The Daily City, Ivanhoe Village and Juice Bike Share, we managed to pull together a funky little pop-up dog park. Not bad for an hour’s work.
One Less Car is hosted by the City of Orlando’s Transportation Planning Division and Families, Parks and Recreation Department. The purpose of the event is to help Orlando residents and policy makers envision more green spaces in the City Beautiful. Non-profits, architect firms and local businesses got the chance to transform parking spaces into their own park-centric visions.
One of the stand-outs for us was the Orlando Fit Trail (Website) parklet designed by Charlan Brock Associates (Website), that featured a rowing machine, modern design shade shelter and a solar powered phone charging station that you can lock up and pick up your phone after a run.
The event will be happening on the Western edge of Lake Eola until 2:30 p.m. so grab your lunch to-go and take advantage of the extra park space in honor of Earth Day.

It would be selfish of us not to share this photo of the Mayor playing with two adorable corgies in our little pop-up park.
