The City of Winter Park is looking at possibly changing their historic preservation guidelines.
The City is looking at making it easier to preserve and designate new historic districts as well as making it more difficult to demolish existing sites of historic note. Changes would include lowering the required amount of votes from 67 percent to 50 percent in order to establish a new historic district.
There are two public meetings this week: Thursday, May 7 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center.

Ah, I guess this might upset the people who want more strip malls with fancy names and Ale Houses.
Richard Reep did an interesting piece for the Orlando Weekly about it where he talks about how it would make it harder for developers or home owners to “do what they do.”
I think we have such a lack of respect for history in our area. If they’re making it easier to preserve, it sounds like a good thing to me.
Not happy? Wouldn’t preservation prevent the dreaded density?
