With over 191,000 Orange County students starting summer break, the Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will be watching for crosswalk violations with “Operation Best Foot Forward.”
The pedestrian safety initiative is part of a “crosswalk crackdown” to remind drivers to yield to pedestrians at marked crosswalks.
Plain clothes officers will be monitoring and crossing the streets at marked crosswalks. Drivers who fail to yield will be issued a warning or a ticket costing them $164 and three points on their license.

Good! We need more awareness for crosswalks in the Downtown Orlando area. I am glad to see that OPD is taking initiative on this. The crosswalk by Lake Eola & Publix needs someone to monitor that all the time! It’s terrible.
They need to remind drivers and pedestrians the rules. I hate when trying to walk in a crosswalk that a driver pulled into. Or on a sidewalk where someone parked on the sidewalk in the driveway. Or pedestrians crossing in the middle of the road with traffic expecting you to stop when a crosswalk Is a few feet away
What police violence is OPD committing?
Seriously! Every day at least 3 people just fly right by us!
Mandy Burger. Where are they when we go on our walksU0001f609
I think more accidents could be avoided if they enforced people actually crossing at the marked crosswalks instead of in the middle of the street/wherever they feel like it.
They need to monitor the speeders on Summerlin and Briercliff including the school buses from Boone H.S. We have called repeatedly with no action even after contacting Patty Sheehan who referred it to the officer who drives the pink patrol car. She called a year ago and said they would look into it. Children, walkers, joggers and cyclists use this route. Just hope there are no serious accidents.
Maybe they can monitor the police violence they commit next?
That’s exactly what I said, Karen R. Wade! NOW? When all the kids are gone? Duh.
I’m confused? OPD is starting to monitor school crosswalks now that school is out for summer?
