Ask Bungalower: Will FDOT replant all the trees they’re cutting down?

Bungalower readers have been asking us for weeks about all the trees being cut down along the I-4 Ultimate corridor.  So at your request, we reached out to the Florida Department of Transportation to see if they had plans to reforest the areas they were clearing.

FDOT Public Information Specialist, Jessica Keane, explained that landscaping costs account for 1.5 percent of the overall project budget, which translates to $28 M.

A 1.5 percent investment for highway landscape projects is standard, according to Florida State Statute requirements.

Landscape plans are still being worked on, but when the interstate construction has ceased, FDOT will be planting over 14,500 trees; including palms, canopy, flowering, transitional wetland and buffer trees, along the 21-mile project.
