Orlando businesses now have the option to opt into a program which will divert their food waste from the landfill.

For $14.95 a month, businesses can now partake in a program that will collect their food waste up to three times a week. Benefits from participating in the program are reducing overall garbage collection, reducing odor from their dumpster, and being recognized as an Orlando Green Works partner.

Participating businesses are provided with 65 gallon carts (two-four per restaurant or 10-15 for hotels), pore and post-consumer food pickup (excluding plastic, glass, metal, and non-biodegradables), employee training, and more. The monthly fee is added to the OUC bill, meaning no extra contracts or administrative tasks.

Collected food waste will be sent to waste treatment facilities and used to create compost, natural gas, fertilizers and other beneficial products.
