Following on the heels of the Art Box and Art Dumpster projects, the Mills 50 Mainstreet District has secured a $3,500 matching grant from the City of Orlando to decorate 25 storm drain in the area.
The Art Drain Project will begin scouting for 25 potential storm drain locations in Colonialtown, Lake Eola Heights and along Mills Avenue this upcoming January. Those locations will need to be approved by the City before any brushes hit the pavement.
A call to artists is expected to be released in February, with artists being selected in March, and painting to begin in April.
Each drain must feature the slogan “rain goes down the drain” which is meant to call attention to the function of local storm drains and how they are connected to Orlando lakes and waterways.
