The liberal arts college is planning to build a one-story 5,050 SF building at the corner of Holt and South New York Avenue [GMap] to house the college’s Child Development and Student Research Center (Website). According to the program’s website, the Center acts as, “… a laboratory of the Department of Psychology at Rollins College, the Child Development & Student Research Center (CDC) creates opportunities for research and learning with undergraduate students, children of all abilities and faculty of the College.”

The lot currently features a fenced-in storage area and a Spanish-colonial office building pictured below.

According to a report by the Orlando Business Journal, a second reading of the building plans will go before City Commissioners on January 11 and the college is hoping to begin construction in early spring, following the demolition of the building that currently resides on that lot.

The Orlando Sentinel wrote about the project back in October when local College Quarter residents raised concerns over the proposed zoning changes associated with the new building.
