This is the first in a series of posts by the Downtown South Mainstreet District. Downtown South, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was established in the fall of 2008 by a group of local residents and business owners, who recognized its potential and wanted to make a difference in the quality of life for all. 

Yesterday, the Bungalower reported that Lido’s Italian Restaurant, a family-operated Downtown South staple since 1970, will be closing up shop for good this coming April. After years of speculation, the owner of the Shoppes Of Orange, holding Lido’s, Xclusive Nail Bar and 3 vacant units, is moving forward with plans to demolish the current structure and replace it with the “South Orange Medical Building”.

According to the City of Orlando, there was a pre-application meeting about this site last week with the developers and planning staff. The rendering provided to City is a conceptual elevation drawing. Planning staff will be reviewing the official plans to ensure they meet the Orange/Michigan Vision Plan requirements and meet appearance review standards.
