“Has Bungalower ever researched zoning for chickens/goats in the Orlando area? Would be interested to know the laws.” – Carly Johnson
Chickens are allowed within City limits (in Districts 3, 4, and 5) but only if the owners are participating in the Urban Chicken Pilot Program. There are plenty of openings for Orlando Residents to participate in the program, which was extended last summer and is scheduled for final review on June 15,2016.
The City of Orlando has no ordinances that specifically regulate goats, and defers to the County in regards to animal control. Under the Florida Right to Farm Act, people are allowed to keep livestock on their property but only if it has been zoned as Agricultural by the Property Appraiser.
“Keeping goats for domestic purposes is permitted in A-1 and A-2 (agricultural) districts subject to the condition that it not exceed 6 goats per parcel. Goats for domestic purposes are also allowed in R-CE-5 (rural country estate) and A-R (agricultural residential) with 6 goats maximum as well.
For property owners that wish to raise/keep goats for business purposes, they would need a Special Exception in the A-1 or A-2 districts.“
