Tim McKinney, most known for his role as CEO of United Global Outreach (Facebook | Website) and his work in Bithlo, has announced his candidacy for County Commissioner District 5, against the current County Commissioner, Ted Edwards (Website).
Under McKinney’s guidance, non profit United Global Outreach has been practicing a place-based model of community building that brings social services directly to struggling populations and currently runs or facilitates a small school, free dental and eye exams, and counselling services for Bithlo residents.
McKinney’s formal announcement will be made at the Orange County Administration building [GMap] at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, February 11.

“The voices of too many people in Orange County District 5 have been ignored for far too long by career politician Ted Edwards. We need someone from the community who has a track record of service, solving problems and getting things done. I will fight for what is most important to all Orange County residents: job creation, quality affordable housing, addressing homelessness, sustainability, transportation infrastructure and encouraging a renewed sense of community in all of our District 5 neighborhoods. District 5 deserves a leader who will represent every person, be accessible and knows how to build consensus across party and generational lines. I am ready to do that on day one. Ted Edwards has to go.”
