In honor of National Poetry Month, Orlando reading series Functionally Literate will be hosting two contemporary poets; Vidhu Aggarwal and Derrick Austin, at 1300 Brookhaven, on April 23 at 7 p.m.

The series pairs a local writer with a visiting one and this upcoming event features Rollins College professor Vidhu Aggarwal, whose poetry breaks traditional forms by incorporating multimedia elements, collaboration, and performance, and Derrick Austin, a Cave Canem Fellow, who is visiting Orlando for the first time to launch his debut poetry collection, Trouble the Water.

Functionally Literate seeks to connect Orlando’s community of readers, writers, artists and the intellectually curious with contemporary literature. There will be drinks, books, conversation, and, in addition to celebrating Trouble the Water and The Trouble with Humpadori, there will be plenty of trouble to get into at the after party.
