EDIT: The opening of this new park is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18
City Council has approved an item to purchase new playground equipment for Mathews Park in College Park [GMap]. The equipment in question is currently being used at Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival for their Music Garden Melodies Playground which the WDW website describes as, “Children can express their creativity by playing instruments like drums, chimes and xylophones—and tap into their adventurous side by tackling state-of-the-art net climbers.”

Mathews Park was at the top of the City’s “Playground Replacement Priority List” due to its advanced age. The next two parks on the list to be renovated are Malibu Groves [GMap] and Gilbert McQueen [GMap]. Mathews Park is the 29th park to be renovated in the past 13 years.

Installation of new playground equipment is expected to begin in June, at the end of the Flower and Garden Festival.
