The Thread is a column by Anna Christmas, a style consultant who recently moved back to Orlando, that looks at the who, what, and wear of Orlando’s fashion scene

Summer is creeping around the corner and it’s time to realign our wardrobe accordingly. The tricky trot between comfort, blistering heat, and looking fresh is undoubtedly a massive challenge for trendy Orlandoans. Fortunately there are ways to combat this never ending battle.

One of my all time favorite silhouettes is the off the shoulder look. It is flattering, cooling and adds a subtle sexiness to any ensemble. This cut comes in tops and dresses alike. Below I have provided a weekend guide of how to wear when.

Friday Evening

This look is for those long-awaited fabulous Friday evenings. If your meeting a date at the SNAP gallery exhibition this light yet chic look will have you getting compliments all evening. Date included, wink.

Saturday Morning

While picking up your (arguably) locally-grown avocados and home made kombucha at the Downtown Farmers Market you should most defiantly go for comfort. This white eyelet piece is appropriate for the heat and a chance encounter with your boss and his wife by the strawberries. Use your accessories for practicalities such as the big hat to shade for a stroll along the lake and a straw bag to carry home your goods. I also would trade out the heels for a pair of gladiator sandals. Nobody wants a broken ankle.

Saturday Night

This gorgeous dress is perfect for dinner and the ballet at the Dr Phillips Center. People are constantly asking what to wear to events like these and I always tell them there is a fine line between being too casual and too over the top. I always suggest keeping your materials on the fancy side, your silhouettes simple, and always, I say always, wear a heal. Less is more for these occasions.

Sunday Morning

If you are headed to The Osprey Tavern for a Sunday morning brunch then this light poplin look will keep you chic enough to sip champagne and loose enough to ride your bike over to East End Market. I would suggest wearing a mule of strappy leather sandal with a heal to brunch and then switching over to a leather sandal for more casual activities later in the afternoon.

Sunday Evening

If you’re doing a Sunday evening dinner at Nova Scratch Kitchen or your friends abode, this clean bright white top would look fabulous with a pair of destroyed denim and a pump. You could keep the ever beloved neutral theme with the hand bag and heals or you can break out the Florida pops of color. Avoid being too matchy-matchy and always be confidant in the risk.
