The Mayor’s office has just named former Director of Sustainability Jon Ippel‘s replacement, Chris Castro. We wrote about Castro previously HERE, as the City had planned to declare last Monday as Chris Castro Day in honor of his heroic actions in saving a woman’s life from a rip tide at Cape Canaveral Seashore. Monday’s City Council meeting was cancelled due to the Pulse Orlando shootings.

Castro has  been engaged in the sustainability movement for the past 10 years, whether through his work at UCF with IDEAS For Us or as the Senior Energy Advisor, Sustainability Program Manager for the City of Orlando.

Castro’s new role will involve advising the Mayor and senior staff on the GreenWorks (Website) program and other City projects involving sustainability, energy, and climate change.
